Buddha Bhagawan Secondary School

Located in Manikhel amidst beautiful high hills and low valleys, Shree Buddha Bhagawan Secondary School has a very lovely environment for children to study. Away from urbanization and pollution, one can enjoy fresh air and clean drinking water there. This VDC with around 90% literacy rate has nearly 331 houses and is 40 km away from the Headquarter of Lalitpur.

The school was named as Shree Buddha Bhagawan because most of the people who served the school followed Buddhism. It was established in 2020 BS (1963 AD) by a group of social workers including Mr. Huddharaj Timalsina, Mr. Prithvibilas Dahal and Mr. Chandra Bahadur Lama along with the help of local leaders. The first principal was Mr. Padma Bahadur Lama. Initially, the classes were conducted in Mr. Krishna Bahadur Singar’s private home and later in Krishna Prasad Timalsina’s house till 2026 BS (1969 AD). The management had to face many ups and downs and took another 8 more years to get its own building. By the end of 2057 BS (2000 AD), the school managed to be upgraded into secondary level. Currently, Mr. Dilip kumar Syangtan, an ex-student of the same school, is working as the Principal.

With 9 students dropping out after the earthquake, the school currently has 329 students. Some of them come from the nearby VDCs like Chaughare, Gotikhel and Bukhel. There are 19 staffs that include 16 teachers from national quota and three TFN Fellows (namely Ram Keshar Thapa, Pratistha Rai and Ruma Maharjan).

The school receives much of its aids from the Nepal government and has no private funding. Recently, TFN, ENPHO, UN-Habitat and Bottlers Nepal helped the school for permanent toilets and drinking water facility that wasn’t available earlier. A new library is being set up and the computer lab, though with only 3 computers, has started being used since this year. The SMC and PTA are also working actively.
