Education: B.E. (Electronics and Communication Engineering), Nepal College of Information Technology

I was born in Lamatar VDC Ward No. 2, in Lalitpur district, in a middle class family. I completed my schooling from ChetanaVidyashram, my higher secondary education from Pinnacle Academy, and my Bachelor’s in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Nepal College of Information Technology.

Till date, I have done well academically, securing above distinction in all three levels of my education –SLC, Higher Secondary, and Bachelor’s level. But the accomplishment that makes me most proud is that I was able to guide a few of my senior colleagues during my Bachelor’s. They were failing the same subjects repeatedly, but after my guidance they passed the specified subjects. They are now on a more prosperous track.

I saw the advertisement for TFN on a newspaper. I had not previously seen any organizations leading this type of movement: I was really touched by the motive and mission. I went through the website, and I thought – as a citizen of this country I also have certain responsibilities. Maybe my simple contribution could transform the lives of hundreds of students.

I chose to become a Teach for Nepal Fellow to be a part of a social movement to end education inequity in Nepal.

Teach for Nepal is for academic improvement in the public schools of Nepal and I am always eager to share my knowledge, skills, and techniques. I saw this was the right platform to do this, where many Nepalese students from public schools would benefit, and I could develop my leadership skills, problem solving skills and communication abilities. I hadn’t thought that the selection and training process would be so tough, but now I realize the urgency of the mission. I understand why the training is so intensive and the selection process was so tough.

My experience with the TFN training will be memorable throughout my life. I’m learning the true meaning of urgency from this training, of what a movement looks like, and how it feels. Although training has been intensive I understand that without rigorous effort and true commitment a movement cannot be successful-- and frankly speaking, the achievements I have made till now have not required the level of effort that I am applying at TFN training.

Regarding the Fellowship, I have gotten mixed reactions. Some people have said -why are you joining TFN to sacrifice your two years? You are a brilliant student, and you can get a good job anywhere! But a few people have also appreciated my choice. I feel excited, and proud that TFN finds me as a person suitable for this sacred job. I feel these two years in TFN will serve the nation. I really felt that I should do a job that could transform the lives of students as well as my own -- that’s why I decided to join.

My hobbies are playing table tennis, listening to music, going on outings with my friends, and doing mathematics. I enjoy learning and teaching mathematics. If anyone needs my assistance to solve mathematical problems, I can stay up all night. I love tricks and logic in math. I know that the job is really going to be very tough. But with my aspirations and my confidence, I hope I can contribute to the change. I am really excited that I am going to learn something from the students and the school I will go to – and that I will facilitate my students’ learning in a way that will ultimately transform their lives. After the Fellowship, I want to go back to engineering in a way that can bridge that field with this mission to end education inequity.

Let's stay in touch.
