Trek For Kids: Charity Challenge to Everest Base Camp

Teach For Nepal invites you to join charity challenge - a life-changing trek in the Himalayas. The 2019 “Trek For Kids” campaign offers the opportunity to trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC), the foot of the highest peak in the world.

The trip to Everest Base Camp, which involves 12 days of the trek through the high Himalayas will bring up to 5,543 meters (18,192 ft) through one of the most beautiful sceneries and breathtaking landscapes. This challenging, yet a very exhilarating trek in Nepal will take you to the base of the majestic Mount Everest.

The funds raised through the charity trek to Everest base camp will support the work of Teach For Nepal.

1. How do I participate in the “Trek For Kids” Charity Challenge?

Create a Campaign at www.teachfornepal.org by clicking on the “Campaign” button. Raise funds from your friends and family. You can contribute yourself or ask for support from the people around you.

2. How do I create a Fundraising Campaign?

• Sign up (top right corner)

• Once on the Dashboard, click on “Create Campaign”

• Complete the form to create your personalized campaign

• Share with your friends and family.

3. What does the itinerary look like?

  2. Fly from Kathmandu - Lukla and trek to Phakding

  3. Phakding - Namche Bazaar

  4. Acclimatization Day - Namche Bazaar

  5. Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

  6. Tengboche to Dingboche

  7. Dingboche - Duglha

  8. Duglha - Lobuche

  9. Lobuche - Gorakshep - Everest Base Camp- Gorakshep

  10. Gorakshep - Kala Patthar - Pheriche

  11. Pheriche-Pangboche-Tengboche-Namche Bazaar

4. How fit do I need to be?

The treks are in high altitude regions therefore can be challenging. However, the trek doesn’t require any special climbing skills. If you have been jogging, running or going to the gym or in reasonably physically fit to walk for 6-8 hours a day - you can do the treks. The group will also have a guide and potters to support you.

5. Do I need special equipment?

Except for some warm clothes and good trek boots, you do not need any special equipment.

6. What is included in the cost?

  1. Round trip flight (Kathmandu - Lukla - Kathmandu)

  2. All transportation while in Nepal (including Airport pick up and drop off)

  3. All accommodation in Kathmandu & in Trek

  4. Guest House or Tea House for Overnight on Twin Sharing

  5. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the trek

  6. All necessary national park entrance fee and trek permits

  7. Experienced English speaking guide

  8. 1 Porter for 2 Guest

  9. Salary, insurance, accommodation, meals, equipment and domestic airfare of trek staff

7. What is not included in the cost?

Nepal visa, Travel insurance, Tips for guides and drivers, Items of personal consumption (mineral water, alcoholic beverages, laundry, etc.) and international flight costs.

8. What is Teach For Nepal (TFN)?

Teach For Nepal (TFN) is a local charitable organization dedicated to improving the quality of public school education in Nepal by nurturing collective leadership among outstanding young graduates and young professionals, who serve in high need rural schools as volunteer teachers for two years.

9. Where do the funds raised through “Trek For Kids” charity trek go?

The funds raised through the charity challenge goes in recruitment, training, and stipend of Teach For Nepal Fellows.
