Shree Udaya Kharka Secondary School has been receiving a lot of support from many institutions as well the local community. First of all, it is located in a good neighborhood; people provide stationaries and school uniforms for the children. Rotary Club and Looniva have been supporting with cash, Splash helps with drinking water, Prayas Nepal also provides cash and INSEC and CWISH Nepal help the school will awareness programs.

Established in 2017 BS (1960 AD) as a primary school under the initiation of the local people, the school is located in Chapagau. It was upgraded as a secondary school in 2053 BS (1996 AD). A total of 301 students are in ECD to Class 10 and the Drop-out rate is 2%. TFN Fellows have been teaching there since 2013 AD and two fellows are teaching at the moment. The SLC pass percentage in 2071 BS was 55%.

Major ethnicity/caste in the school are Tamang (50%), followed by Nagarkoti (25%), Brahmin/Chettri (15%), lower caste (9%) and others (1%). Agriculture and animal husbandry are the main livelihood sources for the people.

The total number of teachers is 24 including 2 TFN Fellows. Among them, 15 are male and 9 are female teachers. 13 permanent teachers, 4 temporary teachers, 2 private teachers and 3 Relief Quota teachers are involved.

WASH facility, drinking water as well as electricity facility is satisfactory. Playground, library, Science lab and a computer lab with 28 computers is available. There are enough desks, benches and white boards for the students and the classrooms. There is also the presence of child club, SMC and PTA. Estimated budget of the school is around Rs. 68,00,000. Almost 90% revenue comes from government, 5% local level, 3% students/parents and 2% from other organizations.

16 km far from Kathmandu, the school can be reached by bus and a 20 minutes’ walk.
