There are 771 students studying in Saraswati Secondary School at present. Only 17 students out of 54 who appeared in the SLC Examinations passed in 2014 AD. The average student dropout rate of the school is 54%. Students have to walk up to 45 minutes or cycle for 25 minutes to reach the school. SMC and PTA have been functioning well. Maithili is mostly used for communication in the school.

Located in Katrait in Dhanusha, the school was established in 2019 BS (1962 AD). It ran classes from 1 to 3 at first but was eventually upgraded as a secondary school in 2011 AD. TFN Fellows have been placed there since 2015 AD.

To reach the school from Kathmandu, you can take a bus/flight to Janakpur which is 253 km away. Local transportation is available from there.

For health facilities¸ people go to the only health post available in the area, which doesn’t have proper health facilities. There is no police station. NTC and NCell mobile network services are available but they aren’t that good.

The school’s physical infrastructure is insufficient. There are separate toilets for boys and staff and girls’ toilet is under construction. Tube well is the only source of drinking water which isn’t so good. The playground isn’t big enough and there is no library or Science lab. There is no separate room for computer lab, either but the school owns 5 computers. There aren’t enough desks/benches for students and the classrooms have no access to whiteboards.

Earthquake Impact The school wasn’t much affected by the earthquake. The buildings with 9 classrooms are all in safe condition though some cracks have been seen. No furniture has been damaged, either.
