Narayani Higher Secondary School, Gimdi

Narayani Higher Secondary School was established in 2020 BS (1963 AD) as a primary school and was later upgraded as a higher secondary school. Currently, 320 students (171 boys and 149 girls) are studying in the school’s ECD to Grade 12.

3 TFN Fellows, Anjana Pokhrel, Rabindra Dangol and Rusha Adhikari have been teaching there since 2015 AD. Besides, 2 Office Assistants, 1 ECD teacher and 12 permanent teachers are providing their services. The SLC Pass Percentage in 2014 AD was 86.66%.

The community has people from backgrounds like Brahmins, Chhetris, Magars and Tamangs and very few are Dalits. They follow Hinduism, Buddhism and also Christianity. People are mostly engaged in farming and small scale local businesses and some are into foreign employment. Crops like paddy, maize, wheat, barley, millet and beans are grown. The students have to walk for about 3 hours to attend the classes. There is no hostel facility.

Located in Gimdi VDC in the south of Lalitpur, the school is 70 km far from the district headquarter. You can reach there by bus from Chapagaun to Ashrang Bensi. From there, mini trucks carrying goods are found frequently.

There’s a sub-health post as well as a police station at Gimdi and it’s in ten minutes walking distance from the school. CDMA and Smart network services are available. Drinking water is available directly from the source and it is not purified.

Facility of toilets is there but they aren’t enough and not managed well. Electricity is available from local hydro only for the evenings and it has 3 KW solar back up plant. The library has only a few books and is not managed well. The school lacks a Science Lab and a Math Lab. There is a Computer Lab with solar backup, which wasn’t used much before TFN Fellows started helping the teachers to use them. There are enough desks/benches for the students and each classroom has a whiteboard. Nepali and Tamang languages are primarily used for instructions and English is used very occasionally. There is SMC as well as PTA in the school.
