Upon the initiation of the community members, Indreshwori Higher Secondary School was established in Melamchi Municipality in 2031 BS (1974 AD). Initially, the school ran classes up to Grade 1 to 3 and it was upgraded into Lower Secondary School after 5 years. The school eventually started running Secondary and Higher Secondary classes. Undergraduate level was introduced in 2007 AD.

Currently, a total of 771 students are enrolled in the school from ECD to Bachelor’s level. 17 Male and 4 Female teachers are involved. TFN Fellows have been placed there since 2014 AD. School enrollment rate among children is 100%. The SLC Pass Percentage of 2014 AD was 56.7%.

Mostly Tamang, Chhetri and Brahmin communities live in the vicinity. They follow Hinduism, Buddhism or Christianity. Livelihood sources for the people are farming (85%), overseas employment (10%) and other small scale business (5%). Primary agriculture productions are wheat, corn, potato and millet. Students walk up to 2 and half hours to attend classes and there is no hostel facility. They get lunch in school (TFN Mid-day meal).

About the facilities in the area, there is a Health post but it has poor health facilities. Drinking water facility is satisfactory. 2 other private schools run nearby. There are neither police stations nor any industries/factories nearby. NTC and NCell mobile services are available. Electricity is provided by national grid.

The school is equipped with 13 classrooms, a playground, library, Science lab and a computer lab with 15 computers. There are enough desks/benches for all the students and all of the classrooms have whiteboards. Around 2 Crores is the school’s estimated annual budget. The government and community are the major sources of fund. There is a SMC but no PTA in the school.

The village is accessible via bus, helicopter or other private 2 wheelers and 4 wheelers from Kathmandu and is about 70 km away.
