I firmly believe in the saying “knowledge is power”. And I think I have grabbed every opportunity to share what I have learned. On the road of my belief, I got a chance to get involved in a small beauty contest in Dang. When I first walked into the auditorium with the hopeful participants, I saw nervous and confused faces. I was determined to give them something that they could always use – belief in oneself.
On the final day of the pageant, I sensed they received more than just gifts and bouquets. Those confident faces, those beautiful smiles, and those capable girls: that was my biggest achievement.
I first saw the ad of TFN in a newspaper and I wondered what if my job was to change the nation? The thought sent shivers down my spine and I asked myself, “Why not?” I have always been a responsible citizen and this fellowship came to me as an opportunity to fulfill my individual social responsibility. After having been accepted for the fellowship, I feel more like a driver of change.
When I revealed my intentions to be a part of this organization, almost everybody praised me for my courage and determination. Having grown up in the capital city amidst my loved ones, they knew I would have a hard time in a new place far off from home. But I appreciate that they respected my desire to bring a change in the educational scenario.
I am eagerly looking forward to experiencing a whole new setting in the next two years. How will they respond to me? How will the students accept me as their mentor and supporter? How am I going to adapt to a new environment? Most of all, I am excited about bringing out the best in me to nurture my students and help them learn, beyond their academic studies. There are two things that interest me: music and books. I am a huge fan of Haruki Murakami, and am influenced by the writings of Cecelia Ahern, Chuck Palahniuk, Taslima Nasrin, and Fyodor Dostoevsky, to name a few.
Ten years down the road, I would like to see myself as someone who has found her way and learned from time. I would not mention the term “successful” here simply because I have not yet understood the true meaning of success. But if success means being happy with what I am doing and more importantly, spreading happiness, then I would consider myself successful.
