I always had a dream of doing something that would last a lifetime. I found that opportunity in Facebook when I saw Teach For Nepal’s announcement for Fellowship. Learning more about the movement, I found I would be advocating for education equality by teaching young minds of our country. Fellowship would also provide me with an opportunity to help lessen the pain and struggle of people in underprivileged communities.
My quest to end education inequality isn’t something I want to do just because it’s something young people are enthusiast about in their hay days. I wanted to be part of it because I was myself a victim of an unequal education system and political instability. When I was in grade three, the Maoist insurgency was at its peak and I had to move from a private school that offered quality education to a public school. Fortunately, my education base I had developed in the private school, as well as the support of teachers in the public school, helped me achieve higher ranking in SLC compared to the rest of my class.
During my school years, I was an active member of Red Cross, World Vision. I also participated in various activities like essay competition and interschool quiz competition where I won various prizes. After finishing my tenth grade, I moved to Kathmandu from Lamjung to study higher secondary and later pursued Bachelors in Electronics and Communication Engineering at Western Region Campus, Pokhara with a full scholarship.
Outside of school, I used to work as a trainer at a non-political organization that provided training programs. I want to use this experience to help children learn to become self-dependent. I also want to use my passion for drawing, writing poetry, and dancing to bring smiles on faces of children and community.I believe that Teach For Nepal is the right platform for me to exercise my knowledge and enhance my leadership qualities. I know deep down in my heart, I made the right decision choosing Teach For Nepal Fellowship over pursuing an offer to do Masters degree in Germany with a full scholarship.
