Education: BSc (Environmental Science),  Tri Chandra College, Kathmandu

I am Ramesh and I was born on August 24, 1990 in Simichaur VDC of Gulmi District. Simichaur is near the district headquarters, Tamghash. I grew up there and did my schooling from Shree Bhagwati Secondary School. I passed my SLC examination with a first division score. After I passed the SLC I came to Kathmandu for my further studies. I went to Viswa Niketan Higher Secondary School and studied Science in my 10+2.

The most challenging time in my life was when I had to transition from a Nepali-medium school to English-medium instruction. I still remember that I failed in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the first term exam, when I was in grade 11. That failure led me to work harder not only on course content but also to improve my English. So I started reading English novels. My persistence allowed me to pass 10+2 with First Division. After that I joined a BSc and completed with a major in Environmental Science.

I am proud of my decision to study in an English-medium school after completing my SLC, and then to complete my Bachelor’s degree in the subject that has been my favorite. My first job is working toward changing the nation by ending education inequity. I feel proud to be a part of this movement. I first found out about Teach for Nepal from my Mama, Yubraj Acharya. He gave me the link to the TFN’s website, and I read all the information on it. At that moment I was really excited that the mission TFN was carrying matched concerns that I had since passing the SLC examinations. I remembered my school’s result; only 13 out of 81 students had passed in the SLC examinations. I knew that TFN was going to end such disparity.

I like TFN’s vision. The main reason I applied was that I came from a public school background and I know why students from public schools really fail in examinations. Another reason was – so that no more students would fail in the SLC exam like my friends did.

I decided to join TFN because I was planning to gain experience for at least 2 or 3 years before starting my Master’s degree and also because I really want to be a part of this movement.

I am really excited that students are my future and that the school where I am going to teach will be my platform to give my 100% effort for the students’ success.

Let's stay in touch.
