Home: Patan, Lalipur, Bagmati

Education: BBS, Nepal Commerce Campus

I was born in Ombahal, a small place hidden between the alleys of Patan. I am the second child in my family with an elder sister and a younger brother. I passed my SLC from Lalitpur Madhyamik Vidhyala in Mahalaxmisthan, Lalitpur and completed my higher level education from United Academy. I got my bachelor’s degree in business studies from Nepal Commerce Campus.

In school, I asked and answered questions in every subject except math: math always bored me while science was the subject that I have always been interested in. My teachers were the reason I paid attention in classes. They guided me to be a good student; they were people I would always look up to.

I remember one of my friends saying, “I appreciate you wanting to do social work but living in a village for two years? That would kill your social life.” I just laughed and didn’t reply because I knew what I had signed up for. I was confident about my decision to work for Teach For Nepal. The thing that made me nervous the most was the thought of having to live in a village. I had hardly spent a night outside of the Kathmandu Valley.

I came to know about Teach For Nepal through a volunteering opportunity advertised on Facebook. After a few months, I came across a group photo of the selected fellows and that very picture got stuck in my mind. I did my research and attended an orientation program. The more I learned about TFN, the more I wanted to be a Teach For Nepal Fellow. I was aware that this was my opportunity to work selflessly for a community and help change lives. I didn’t want to ignore the chance and risk living with the feeling of regret. I believe that the universal solution to any problem is quality education.

The belief that my family and friends had in me was the driving force that inspired me to be a confident person. I am grateful for the upbringing my parents provided me with. They are the reason I get to be a TFN fellow. Also I am thankful to other Fellows who are working as the kind of heroes I want to be. The stories they have shared reflect their excitement and pride in touching the lives of children they teach, and leading them towards hope. And I am gratified to all the generous people at TFN who are guiding me from being just another individual to a Teach For Nepal Fellow.

Let's stay in touch.
