Home: Darjeeling, India, Kathmandu, Bagmati
Education: Bachelor’s of Social Work, Bright Vision International College, Nepal
I was born in a small hill station (Darjeeling) in India. Before moving to Nepal with my family, I studied in Darjeeling till Grade two. Moving to Kathmandu was a huge change in my life. In the beginning, I found it challenging to fit in with my classmates. But soon, my willingness to try new things and part-take in all the activities helped me gain friends.
I was always a high-achieving student, so I never had any problem academically. My parents never had to persist me for education because they were aware of my value for education. After passing School Leaving Certificate with distinction, I studied Humanities in Einstein Academy. I first heard about Social Work as a subject while I was in +2 and my interest grew towards it. So, after finishing my +2, I pursued Social Work in my Bachelor’s level. This time, I started learning more about the society we live and I started getting inspired to pursue a career in Social Work.
After college, I decided to work as a psychosocial counselor at Center for Mental Health and Counsellor-Nepal (CMC-Nepal) project in Rasuwa. My responsibility was to provide the basic level of counseling for traumatic people affected by 2015 earthquake. I learned about Teach For Nepal and their youth movement through social media (Facebook). After learning more about Teach For Nepal Fellowship, I realized it could provide me with the satisfaction of helping people.
Throughout my Fellowship, I want to be able to touch the life of students in a way that they themselves can become an agent for change, big or small. I believe that my work experience would be highly beneficial in helping students overcome personal problems as well as to help them learn that happiness is bigger than materialistic things.
