Fellows in cohort 2024

Born and raised in Jumla, a small village, I faced numerous challenges growing up, particularly due to my introverted nature. School was difficult, marred by bullying and a struggle to communicate effectively. Despite these obstacles, I remained disciplined and involved, participating in various activities and winning awards in essay writing and art competitions. Education played a crucial role in shaping who I am today. I attended Pushpanjali Secondary School in my village, and my determination led me to excel academically despite my introversion. This drive continued as I pursued +2 in Business Management at St. Mary’s College and later a Bachelor’s in Hotel Management at Aayaam International College. My sponsor, Manfred Breneissen, was instrumental in my journey, providing vital support and motivation. A particularly challenging period was when I first arrived in Kathmandu and stayed at an orphanage. Faced with ill-treatment and hunger due to language barriers, I learned to navig…

A quiet child with a passion for learning, I grew up in a diverse environment. I attended Samata Shiksha Niketan, a unique school blending students from different socioeconomic backgrounds. My subsequent education at Gurukul College exposed me to a more privileged peer group. Later, I pursued a Bachelor’s in Forestry in India. My father's stories of rural students' challenges ignited a deep-seated curiosity within me. Driven by this interest, I delved into related articles and documents. A pivotal moment came when I heard Uttam Sanjail sir, the founder of Samata Shiksha Niketan, speak. His inspiring journey and vision profoundly impacted me, revealing the potential of an individual to transform countless lives. This realization solidified my desire to contribute to society, particularly in the realm of education, and motivated me to apply for the Fellowship.

My journey into community service began in Sindhupalchowk, where I worked on a community diagnosis project and witnessed the impact Teach For Nepal Fellows had on education in underserved areas. Their dedication inspired me to contribute similarly, leading me to pursue the Teach For Nepal Fellowship. Born and raised in Ghorahi, Dang, I completed my Bachelor’s in Public Health from National Open College after earning a distinction in science in high school. My work as a social mobilizer in Ghorahi and as an intern with Health Foundation Nepal provided me with valuable insights into community dynamics and the importance of grassroots initiatives. These experiences reinforced my commitment to public health and social work, but also made me realize the gaps in our education system—particularly in fostering critical skills like problem-solving and adaptability. I saw the Teach For Nepal Fellowship as the perfect opportunity to bridge these gaps by working directly in classrooms. Thro…

I love spending my free time exploring the vibrant streets of Bhaktapur, visiting cozy tea stalls, cafés, and enjoying movies and dramas. These simple moments help me unwind and reflect on my journey. Growing up, my family went through a separation during my early childhood, which significantly affected my academics. However, the support I received from the family members who stayed by my side was instrumental in shaping who I am today. I completed my secondary education in Dehradun, where the familiar cultural setting made my stay enjoyable. Though I was initially a shy and reserved student, I never let that hinder my pursuit of quality education. The exceptional education I received helped me understand the transformative power of learning, especially when many children in Nepal lack access to the same opportunities. Education inequity in Nepal has always struck a chord with me. I've seen firsthand how disadvantaged students are often left behind, lacking the resources, support, a…

I come from Jyamire in the Makwanpur district, a place where educational resources were scarce. My journey from this village to Kathmandu for higher studies was driven by a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of education. My family—my father, a dedicated secondary-level Nepali teacher, and my two sisters—has always cherished education as a foundation for progress. The path to becoming a Fellow was not easy. My life was profoundly impacted when my mother was diagnosed with cancer during my bachelor's studies. Her passing brought immense personal and academic challenges. However, with the continuous support of friends and teachers, I completed my degree with strong results. This experience ignited my commitment to make a meaningful impact on others' lives. Joining Teach For Nepal has been a fulfilling extension of my journey. As a Fellow, I am dedicated to addressing educational disparities in rural areas, a mission that aligns perfectly with my own values. This opport…

I was born and raised in Chandragadi, Jhapa, in a close-knit community where everyone knew each other. My parents were hardworking farmers who, despite their limited formal education, made sure their children had better opportunities. I grew up with two older brothers, and as the youngest and only girl, I was cherished but also quite the troublemaker. Our family valued education, and my brothers have achieved remarkable things: one is a businessman, and the other works for the WHO with a Master's in Public Health. Their success stories inspire me daily, pushing me to aim high and make a difference in my own way. From a young age, I aspired to lead an extraordinary and fulfilled life, even though I never had a fixed career goal. While others expected me to become a doctor due to my academic prowess, I knew my path was different. My journey through mental health challenges shaped me significantly, teaching me empathy and resilience. This personal growth fueled my desire to contribute m…

Growing up in Palpa, I was a shy and quiet child, passionate about cricket and dreaming of becoming a cricketer. However, life led me down a different path. After completing my schooling, I pursued a BBM from Tribhuvan Multiple Campus, where I truly discovered the transformative power of education and the vast opportunities it could unlock. The person I am today is a result of the persistent support and guidance from my teachers and parents. I’m still in the process of growing, and Teach For Nepal Fellowship offers the perfect platform for self-improvement. My education at a missionary school in Palpa played a crucial role in shaping my values and perspective, which, along with my parents' teachings, inspired me to apply for the Fellowship. During my undergraduate studies, one of my professors often shared life lessons beyond academics, preparing us for future challenges. This mentorship deepened my interest in exploring the education field and giving back to my community through the…

Hailing from the vibrant village of Salyantar in Dhading's Tripurasundari rural municipality, my journey is a testament to perseverance and dedication. After my family relocated to Kathmandu, I embraced the bustling city while carrying with me the values and resilience rooted in my village upbringing. As the eldest sibling in a family of four, I witnessed firsthand the tireless efforts of my mother, a shopkeeper who completed her SLC in 2058 BS. Her hard work and determination have always inspired me. My academic journey took a significant turn when I was honored as the Best Girl of the Year in Class 7, an achievement that fueled my commitment to education. However, life’s challenges became more apparent during the SLC year of 2072 when a devastating earthquake forced us to relocate. This upheaval resulted in a grueling daily commute, with early mornings and crowded microbuses becoming a routine. Despite these obstacles, I remained steadfast in my commitment to education, never mi…

Born in Kathmandu and raised in Kirtipur, I’ve always known the value of hard work, thanks to my parents, who balanced our agricultural roots with a strong emphasis on perseverance. But my journey wasn’t without its challenges—I struggled with shyness and social anxiety, making it hard to imagine standing in front of a classroom. Yet, I pushed through, taking public speaking courses and transforming my self-doubt into confidence. During my college years, I stumbled upon the Teach For Nepal initiative, but it wasn’t until later that I truly understood the depth of educational inequality in our nation. The realization hit me hard—there are countless children, like I once was, who face barriers to receiving a quality education. I was moved by the stories of these underserved communities and felt grateful for the privileges I had. It was clear to me that capable individuals like myself, equipped with the right education and passion, have a responsibility to address this gap. This dr…
