Fellows in cohort 2024
Growing up, I often faced the weight of being labeled an "average" student. I was constantly judged for not excelling, particularly in subjects like math. The environment at home didn’t help, and during the Maoist insurgency, I was sent to a public school, where resources were even more limited. But everything changed when one teacher arrived and saw something in me that no one else did. This teacher organized a story competition at school, and to my surprise, I won. For the first time, I felt a spark of hope, a belief that I could achieve something. That moment was my turning point. I began doing well in my studies and even placed among the top students in my class. I learned firsthand how a compassionate teacher can change a student’s life, and that realization has stayed with me ever since. I want to join Teach For Nepal because I believe quality education, when combined with compassion, can transform students' lives, just like it did for me. I’m passionate about delivering c…
Growing up in Libali, Bhaktapur, after the devastating earthquake demolished my family’s home in Jenla, I witnessed firsthand the challenges of rebuilding both physically and emotionally. With my father being the only breadwinner in a family of five, I quickly learned the importance of resilience. What started as a childhood dream of becoming a teacher, where I once imagined assigning homework and punishments, has since transformed into a deep passion to inspire and empower students to unlock their full potential. My mother is my greatest inspiration. Though she lacked formal education, her determination to attend evening classes after a long day of housework helped her learn to write her name and grasp basic math. Watching her earn respect in our community despite her limited schooling taught me that education is not just about academics—it’s about self-development, persistence, and the power to influence lives. Her journey has been a constant reminder for me to never stop learnin…
I believe Teach For Nepal is a powerful platform that fosters networking among young individuals across diverse fields—engineering, medicine, forestry, and education, to name a few. It is dedicated to providing quality education to students who are often deprived of this fundamental right. Everyone deserves access to education, yet many still struggle to attain it. This is the mission that drives Teach For Nepal. My journey towards this Fellowship began in college when seniors shared insights about Teach For Nepal. Initially, I hesitated to apply while still in my second and third years of bachelor’s studies. However, after graduation, I decided to take a leap of faith and submit my application. The future can be unpredictable, but I am certain that being selected for this Fellowship will elevate my leadership skills. Teaching plays a vital role in shaping lives, and I aim to rise to the occasion. Throughout my life, I have faced numerous challenges, particularly during the tran…
I am originally from Thori Rural Municipality in Parsa District, where my early life was rooted in the simplicity of village life. My family moved to Kathmandu when I was just a year old, reuniting with my father, who was working there. Now that my father is retired, we have returned to Parsa, relying on agriculture for our livelihood. My journey has been shaped by my father’s wisdom. He instilled in me the belief that true success lies not in wealth but in the impact we make on others. This principle has driven me to pursue a path where I can contribute meaningfully to society. As a child, I often explored Kathmandu on my bicycle, each ride a small adventure that filled me with a sense of achievement. These explorations taught me the value of perseverance and discovery. I have always been passionate about education, seeing it as the most powerful tool for transformation. Having recently completed my bachelor's degree, I am eager to embark on a career in Medical Biochemistry and ult…
Having grown up attending a government school, I’ve always been aware of the deep educational inequalities in our system. TFN’s mission to address this by providing quality education to underserved communities aligns perfectly with my personal goals and passions. What excites me most about the TFN Fellowship is the opportunity to work directly with students and make a tangible impact on their lives. I believe that every child has untapped potential, and with the right guidance, they can achieve incredible things. I’ve always enjoyed creating fun, educational activities to engage students—be it organizing small competitions or educational games—and I’ve seen how these can help students grow not just academically, but personally as well. TFN offers the chance to take that passion and scale it up, reaching even more children who need support. One of the most defining experiences in my life was working as a supervisor for the National Population & Housing Census in 2021. Despite fac…
If it weren't for my father's decision to move to Kathmandu from the small village of Bhadaure in Okhaldhunga and his determination to provide quality education for his children, I wouldn't be an engineer today. While I am not saying that students from rural areas aren't educated, it would be foolish to ignore the disparity in the quality of education between urban and rural areas. In my previous profession, I was involved in tasks such as writing reports and designing buildings. However, I did not find this work impactful. Upon reflection, I decided to bring about a more meaningful change in society. What better way to achieve this than by joining an organization like Teach For Nepal? I wholeheartedly agree with TFN's mission of ending educational inequity and ensuring that all children in Nepal have access to quality education. My long-term goal is to work as a policy maker for the Ministry of Education. Working with TFN provides me with the opportunity to develop a deep understan…
My journey has been one shaped by adversity and resilience. Growing up in Attariya, Kailali, I excelled in my SEE examinations, but personal losses early in life drastically altered my academic path and my understanding of privilege. Where I once thrived in school, these hardships led to a significant decline in my performance. Yet, instead of breaking me, this experience sparked a determination within me to give back to those who face struggles like I did. Coming from a middle-class family, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to pursue education when even basic necessities like books feel like luxuries. To support my family, I began giving home tuitions, using the income to finance my college education. My mother’s small fruit shop and my brother’s contributions were essential in making it possible for me to continue my studies. These experiences taught me invaluable lessons about sacrifice, perseverance, and the power of education to change lives. Teach For Nepal is the …
Born amidst the vibrant energy of Kathmandu, I carry the roots of my family back to the serene village of Sano-Chitrey in Kakani, Nuwakot. Growing up in a household running a humble grocery shop, I learned early on the values of hard work and respect for elders. Yet, a yearning to explore my interests and pursue knowledge always burned within me. Education has been my guiding light, shaping my analytical thinking and decision-making skills. It is this passion for learning that drives me to become a Teach For Nepal Fellow. I envision this role as both a giver and a receiver, where every challenge presents an opportunity for growth. Inspired by a teacher’s advice to step outside my comfort zone to truly understand myself and others, I see Teach For Nepal as a chance to contribute to quality education while immersing myself in diverse communities. As a Fellow, I look forward to tackling teaching challenges, celebrating small victories, and making a tangible impact on students' live…
I was born and raised in Bungamati, Lalitpur. My father serves as a Ward Secretary in the government, while my mother, a trained tailor, runs a successful tailoring shop. Growing up in this environment instilled in me a strong sense of community and dedication. From a young age, I aspired to become a lawyer. I dreamed of gaining admission to law school, graduating, passing the Bar exam, and eventually becoming an advocate. This dream became a reality, yet throughout my schooling and time in law school, I became increasingly aware of the myriad challenges facing our country. This awareness sparked a persistent thought: "What if I could help address at least one of these issues?" When I learned about the Teach for Nepal (TFN) fellowship, I saw it as a prime opportunity to make a meaningful impact. Attending TFN's info sessions and events opened my eyes to the profound importance of education and the pressing need to address educational inequality in Nepal. These experiences inspired m…
I am excited to be a Science Fellow with Teach For Nepal, a role that reflects my passion for giving back to the community. My journey began in the scenic village of Saldada, Syangja, where I spent my early years surrounded by nature and family. Though I now live in Sitapaila, Kathmandu, I cherish visits to my hometown, especially during festivals, when I reconnect with my grandmother and enjoy the peace of my roots. I come from a close-knit family of five. My father, a former army personnel, now works as a driver for Golchha Company, while my mother manages our home. My elder brother, a BBA graduate, and his supportive wife, a bank employee, have always encouraged me. Recently, I completed my bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, supported by a scholarship that provided both financial help and enriching experiences. As a child, I was dedicated to my studies, dreaming of becoming a social worker. One of my proudest moments was being selected as Campus Captain in college, which boost…
