As the youngest child in my family, I was supported by my elder brothers for my education. Despite not coming from a very privileged family, I was able to complete Bachelor’s in Engineering from Western Regional Campus in 2070. During and after People’s War, I used to listen to political programs on the radio which made me think about the inequality, injustice, and problems that existed in the society. I also took part in Jana Andolan-2 in 2062. I engaged in different organizations and regularly read newspapers that got me thinking about the inequality in education and teaching methodology. I grew up in a small village in Ashrang, Lalitpur and have seen first-hand the impact that is being made by Teach For Nepal Fellows placed in my village. Growing up in the same village where Teach For Nepal is working, I have seen and experienced the effects of an inadequate number of teachers. I was wearing a ragged blue shirt and a pair of pants. I didn’t have a pencil, notebook, or a backpack. Every step I took towards the school, my heart would start racing and my mind would tell me to turn around and run back home as fast as possible. A few yards seemed like miles, and as I entered through the school gate, every breath I took felt like the last breath of my life. It was my first day in a public school after spending a greater part of my schooling from a private boarding school. My family was facing financial difficulty and we were required to cut back. With private school fee rising, my parents were unable to afford the cost of private education. The first difference I notice when I entered the classroom was that it was overcrowded and loud.
