My mom always tells me, “Until and unless we don’t understand the meaning of hardship, we won’t be able to know the real meaning of life”. However, I was never deprived of anything. We are four siblings and I was given everything I wanted. Maybe this was because I used to stay in hostel and came home in long intervals. My parents worked really hard for our education and upbringing.

After finishing my 12th grade, I left for India to pursue my Bachelor’s. It was my first time I flew out of the country. The moment I boarded, I burst into tears. I realized it would be very different from my home. When I reached there, everything was very new. Since I grew up watching Hindi movies and series, I could communicate well with people in Hindi but I had to struggle with many things. For the first two months, I survived eating Wada Pav (Potato patty with bread). Later I got used to spices and the climate. I had started going to college. It was less hard to adjust with people in college than the food though. I joined BBA- Finance. Even though I struggled a lot, I managed to graduate with good grades. When I went there I had nothing, but while leaving I had lot of good friends, memories, experiences, exposures, strengths and the confidence which I had almost lost. I had worked with a few event management companies there and could’ve worked in any corporate house but I wanted to come back to Nepal.

After I came back, I co-founded an event management company and started working as the Managing Director since I had the experience in the same field. I thought of joining corporate houses, too. But it wasn’t what I really wanted. I wanted to utilize my experiences, knowledge and energy in something that would do good for others. I fortunately came to know of TFN through a newspaper. When I attended an info session, I was very touched. I had never been so clear about the dire situation of education in rural public schools of Nepal. I’ve never worked in a village before and the idea of spending two years in a rural community to help children made me feel excited. I was happy when I was selected for the fellowship. I feel that it’s the ideal job for me.

With my background in Management, I will teach my students about basic management skills. I also want to encourage the people in community to start up their own enterprises, using the locally available resources.

The journey is going to be challenging but I’m looking forward to it. Like my mother says, I want to experience this hardship, so that I understand the meaning of my life.

Let's stay in touch.
