Education: B.E. (Civil Engineering), Nepal Engineering College, Pokhara University, Nepal

My mentor whom I met in the early years of my life has been the biggest source of inspiration for me. Coming from a foreign land, he dedicated years of his life teaching children in a school in my neighborhood. I feel lucky that he chose our neighborhood to live in because that’s how I met him. He lent me his books and inspired me to become an avid reader. It was after meeting him that I started visiting my school’s library often and losing myself in the world of books. He also gave me suggestions whenever I felt lost. I still talk to him on a regular basis and it always feels good to do that.

After the completion of my Bachelor of Civil Engineering, I had many options to choose from. I had option to work as an Engineer. I even took a standardized test to apply for studying abroad but I was not really excited by the idea of going to another country yet. I wanted to do something bigger.

My mentor’s presence in my life has always been so valuable to me that I've wanted to create similar impacts in other people’s lives. I had heard about TFN Fellowship in college and was greatly influenced to join it even before graduating. I had attended an info session and was inspired by the vision of eradicating educational inequality in Nepal. I knew it would give me the platform to touch many children’s life. I also felt that the experience will help me become a more dedicated and a perseverant person.

As a TFN Fellow, I want to teach my students not only to learn what’s in the textbooks but also to understand the basics of life. Being an engineer, I’ve always wondered about the wonders of the world, be it things as simple as the air or a river. I want my students to be able to observe their surroundings and get inspirations. I aspire to implement the knowledge I’ve gained to help my community in making the most out of the resources available locally. I want to use my skills and knowledge to help them in making their daily lives easier. I’ve always believed that books bring to us astounding stories of life so different from the ones we’ve witnessed and from lands far away. And being a voracious reader myself, I want my students to develop the habit of reading. After fellowship, I want to continue with my Master’s in Engineering. After that, I intend to contribute with all my acquired knowledge and skill in the development and progress of rural Nepal.

Let's stay in touch.
