Growing up in a family of four, I was the youngest and enjoyed a life of comfort and privilege. My teachers played a significant role in shaping me, teaching me the power of knowledge and rational thinking. They also instilled in me the confidence to speak up against injustice and inequality. Growing up in Bhindyolachhi, Lalitpur, I never imagined that one day I would be a Teach For Nepal Fellow. My mother, who worked tirelessly in a carpet factory for 20 years and plowed fields at night, always stressed the importance of education. I have always had a dream of being my own boss, but I know that it will take time to achieve. Currently, I am in a place where I want to be a part of something bigger than myself, where I can freely express myself, and make an impact in the world. When I was 10, my family moved to Kathmandu and I was enrolled in a private residential school. As a child, I have always been an avid dreamer, holding onto the fondest memories that have shaped my life. One such memory that continues to stand out in my mind is the time when my friends and I organized a picnic near my home. Amidst playing Antakshari, eating, and dancing, I vividly recall being the one to dance the most, with dreams of becoming the famed Bollywood actor, Akshay Kumar, when all the other kids around me wanted to grow up to be a doctor, an engineer, or a pilot. Despite not having the best examples of mentors growing up, with many of my teachers disinterested in their jobs, I have since undergone a transformation. I am fortunate to come from a family that places a high value on education, even though we are not all highly educated. I'm motivated to join the Teach For Nepal Fellowship to work closely with children and lay a solid foundation to help them achieve their aspirations. As a child, I was repulsed by kids younger than me, thinking they were messy and disorganized. But years later, small children at the Sathiko Sath Home played an instrumental role in saving my soul and reminding me to live for the moment. I had a hard time adjusting to life in Nepal after spending time abroad, but my time with the children showed me that some things are beyond my control and that I must enjoy life as it comes. Now, I'm excited to be amongst children again through the TFN Fellowship. I look forward to reuniting with them, working closely with them, understanding their needs and interests, and being a strong support system for them.
