In my life, I have had some inspiring teachers in school. Among them, I remember my Nepali teacher to be the most inspiring one. He used to utilize highly entertaining teaching tactics, such as integrating music and poems while lecturing, and so on. He used to teach things with a unique approach. His unique style of teaching grammar made learning fun. He used to finish his classes by telling us some of his inspiring anecdotes and reading us some lines from Muna Madan. He used to be kind and understanding when guiding me. My curiosity about his subject was sparked. Aside from academic expertise, he liked to chat about life, love, movies, adventure, and a variety of other topics. The lessons were captivating and the students gave undivided attention. He was the one who inspired me to write poems. I believe in helping people and contributing my knowledge and skills to them. I strongly believe in transformational change in society and that change happens only if people are educated. Teac…

I joined the Hetauda School of Management and Social Sciences in Hetauda and completed my Plus Two and Bachelor’s. I have just completed my Master’s in English Language Teaching Education from Kathmandu University’s School of Education. I have over five years of teaching experience. I worked as an Executive Editor in The Vision Weekly, the first English language newspaper published from the Narayani zone. I also edited Tathya Sampreshan Nijhadh Sahitya Parishad, a fortnightly newspaper, and worked as a newsreader and program presenter in a few different FM stations. My educational journey began from Mansingh Dharma Secondary School, a public school located in Gongabu. My parents were very invested in my education. They made sure that I not only knew the answers to the question but also the purpose of the question and the reasoning for the answer. Their investment in my education and the dedication of my teachers has helped me a lot to achieve success in my studies leading to graduation from Padmashree International College with Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. After graduating, I worked as an accountant for a firm where the job offered security and great pay but did not come with satisfaction. I had been accepted for Teach for Nepal Fellowship a year before. Due to the personal obligation, I couldn’t accept the position and that had left a hole inside my heart. The announcement, “What if your first job was changing the nation?” which I first saw in a Sajha bus kept flashing in my mind. Then after a year, on the day of Christmas, I…

Some years ago I met the head teacher of the school in my village. When I mentioned that I want to have some experience teaching, he asked me if I could cover a year in eight class. One day, I brought in a world map and asked a student to point out “our country Nepal”. But even after five minutes the student could not point out Nepal on the map. This situation made me think that if I were the teacher of this class, this wouldn’t happen. In 2015, I started a joint Masters degree in Education and Sustainable Development. I always remember that class eight’s situation and was in search of the best platform for giving quality education and that is when I found Teach For Nepal. I now feel proud to be a Fellow and excited by the possibility to improve students’ learning situations. Beyond this I hope that Teach For Nepal will help me to develop my abilities and prepare me for my future in the teaching sector. Teach For Nepal is a great opportunity for me to become a really good teacher.

My father has graduated till high school and works as a mechanic in Bahrain. He had to work really hard to feed and educate us and meet other basic amenities. My mother could only complete secondary education but her perseverance in every struggle and her determination have made my family stronger. I had always wanted to build my career keeping Mathematics at the core of it. I was accepted to pursue B Tech with a scholarship offer from Indian Embassy. During the course of my major project in eighth semester, I along with two other students were assigned in a team to complete a simulation-based project. We had slowly begun working on it as we were unfamiliar with the tool used for the project and were discovering different parameters. 15 days prior to the deadline, we had completed only half of what we had promised to accomplish. To make matters worse, one of my project members was admitted to hospital for dengue. After I started handling simulations in two computers and on a system i…

Born in Kalaiya, Bara, I lived in an extended family consisting of twenty-six members. I had a simple childhood but there was a time in the past when it became difficult to even feed all the family members. My father works as a mechanic and businessman. I used to work with him in his workshop when I was nine-years-old. I learned welding and repairing bikes, trolly, lathe machines at the workshop. This is one reason that got me interested in the engineering field. I enjoy reading e-books related to technology, skill building, HVAC, car engine maintenance, and bike assembling manuals in my free time. As I had a large family and our income status was bleak, I had to join a government school where I completed my basic education. There was a custom of tuition classes in my school. I didn’t have money to pay for tuition fees hence, I self-studied and never joined tuition during my entire school period. I was weak in Mathematics in ninth and tenth standard. Even then, I couldn’t afford the…

In every phase of life, I have realized the importance of education. A good education has taught me how to conduct myself. It has made me confident and an independent individual who can achieve things and also share my knowledge and experience with others. As a child, I always wanted to become a teacher. My friends and I used to role-play and take twins to be teachers. I still have vivid memories of how I would get excited thinking that the next way would be for my twin to play the role of a teacher. I chose to teach as a profession because I had teachers who believed in me and me believe in myself. I chose it because I want to be that support for children so they know they have a purpose. Being away from home and studying in India for the past 24 years gave me a different experience altogether. I always knew I would come back to my country after completing my Master's as I wanted to do something purposeful in my country. Everyone has their reason for choosing to become a part of Te…

I would dread the idea of sitting for the mathematics exam when I was in the lower secondary level. This fear continued until I reached the tenth standard. When I was in the tenth standard, a new mathematics teacher joined the school. The way he taught and explained the concept of mathematics was different. Slowly, the concepts of mathematics started to dawn on me. By the time I appeared for my School Leaving Certificate Examination, I became confident enough to take the mathematics examination and even scored good marks. Through this growth, l learned the value of a good teacher in making a student successful. Having a good teacher early on in my life motivated me to start my career as a teacher. My journey as a teacher began while I was still doing my undergraduate studies. My long-term mission in life is to educate the kids and make a difference in their life. Teach For Nepal’s mission and vision aligns with my life’s mission. Ever since I was a high schooler, I aspired to be a TF…

I was born in Kathmandu. My early childhood days were spent in Bhaktapur. Then my family moved to Lalitpur, and now I reside in Balaju. I completed my schooling from a private school, and did my +2 from National School of Sciences. After that, I completed my Bachelor’s in Health Care Management from National Open College. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Science (Zoology) from Tri Chandra College and waiting the results of my final year. I passed my Bachelor’s with distinction, and was a founding member of the National Students’ Society of Health Care Management. I first came to know of TFN through a conference on research methodology held at Everest Hotel. Mr. Shisir Khanal was one of the paper presenters. He delivered a presentation showing us grave statistics about the Nepali education system. These figures depicted the dark future that we are heading towards, if those statistics are to continue. My very first reaction was an overpowering sense of urgency and sense of …

I was raised by a single mother. Despite our family being financially unstable, I worked hard and finished my schooling and Bachelor’s. Since I have always wanted to help others in need, I had chosen to pursue Social Work for my undergraduate studies. When I was doing my Bachelor’s, I got to work with different organizations working for the welfare of children and youth and this passion to work with such people led me to TFN. One of the most fruitful experiences was working as a Trainee at Association for the Protection of Children (APC) Nepal. I got to work closely with street children. We had provided non-formal education to the children and engaged them in fun activities like art and indoor games. Each and every child I worked with was so special and I could see that they had so much potentials to excel in their lives if they got the platform. Again, working as a trainee at Children and Women in Social Service and Human Rights (CWISH), I had to prepare a media monitoring report …
