Reflecting, Reconnecting, and Rejuvenating: Teach For Nepal Fellows Gather for the 41st MILI

July 19, 2024 | Kathmandu

The 41st Mini Learning Institute (MILI) brought a warm quarterly meet-up from July 16th to 19th. It was a time for Teach For Nepal Fellows from Cohorts 11 (Anantam) and 12 (Binaya) to reconnect after spending 15 and 3 months respectively in their communities and schools.

The Fellows returned with a wealth of experiences to share from their placement schools. Some recounted early successes in their classrooms, while others shared the ongoing challenges and triumphs that come with building a strong foundation for their students. These stories, both big and small, provided valuable learning opportunities for all.

Learning from Inspiration

The 41st MILI went beyond individual reflection, fostering a spirit of collaboration under the inspiring theme 'I Can and I Will!'

TFN Alumni taught students and Samaanata Fellows Archana Giri, Dipisha Bishwokarma, Dipak Kumar Kurmi, and Anuj Sah

Fellows interacting with TFN Fellow taught student, Asmita Mandal, who is currently studying in the United States doing her first year of Bachelors.

The Fellows were truly inspired by reconnecting with former students, most of them were taught by Teach For Nepal Fellows and Alumni over the past decade. These students, now carving their own successful paths – some with established careers, others pursuing prestigious scholarships – shared their journeys, offering invaluable guidance and motivation to the current Fellows.

A discussion panel featuring Mr. Ratan Devkota, Ms. Bishnu Rimal Ghimire, Mr. Medin Lamichhane, and Mr. Deviram Acharya explored the meaning and relevance of non-graded students and their future.

Throughout the four-day program, Fellows had the valuable opportunity to network with academics, school leaders, alumni, and media representatives. Discussions tackled pressing issues in education, including the Non-Graded system in the SEE, interpreting SEE results for student growth, and crafting student vision exercises. Fellows also gained practical insights through sessions on behavior management led by Bikash Deshar, a Tergar School Kathmandu principal and TFN alumnus, and community mapping. Additionally, subject-specific sessions provided them with further knowledge to address challenges within their schools and communities.

The MILI wasn't all work and no play. Sound healing and wellness sessions provided much-needed rejuvenation, while an energizing futsal game with the alumni and staff fostered solidarity.

Cohort 11 Anantam wom the friendly futsal match that was organized between Fellows, Alumni, and Staff team.

As the MILI concluded, some Fellows eagerly returned to their communities, while others took a well-deserved break. Through these four days, stories of hope and determination were exchanged, leaving everyone with renewed zeal for the upcoming quarter.

We at Teach For Nepal extend our heartfelt wishes to all our Fellows as they continue their incredible work!
