Teach For Nepal Terminates Fellow Following Incident of Corporal Punishment

Teach For Nepal deeply regrets announcing the termination of Fellow Bhesh Raj Thada Magar due to an incident involving the use of corporal punishment in the classroom. This decision comes after a thorough series of conversations with the affected students, their family members, and the school committee, as part of our commitment to ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment. Teach For Nepal has a zero-tolerance policy towards violence in any form, and this incident does not align with the values and principles we uphold.

On May 12, 2023, it was reported that the Fellow used corporal punishment on four secondary level students while fulfilling his role as a Teach For Nepal Fellow. We deeply regret that such actions occurred within our organization and acknowledge the impact it may have on the trust placed in Teach For Nepal. Teach For Nepal promptly initiated an investigation along with the Fellow, students' family members, and the school committee. These discussions were conducted with utmost sensitivity and under the supervision of all relevant stakeholders and local police..

After careful consideration and in line with Teach For Nepal's zero-tolerance policy, the decision was reached to terminate the Fellow from the Fellowship program. This decision reflects our unwavering commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for all students.

Teach For Nepal reaffirms its commitment to upholding child-centric teaching methodologies and promoting the holistic development of students. The actions demonstrated by Bhesh Raj Thada Magar are entirely contrary to the values and principles that Teach For Nepal stands for. We want to emphasize that the incident does not reflect the overall dedication and commitment of our organization and Fellows towards transforming education in Nepal.

Moving forward, Teach For Nepal is committed to implementing additional measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring. We will review and reinforce our policies and guidelines on student discipline, provide ongoing training to our Fellows, and strengthen our support systems to ensure a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students. We remain steadfast in our dedication to transforming education in Nepal and will continue working tirelessly towards our mission of achieving equity and excellence in education.

प्रज्ञार्थीलाई फेलोशिपबाट निष्काशन गरिएको बारे ।

२०८० बैशाख २९ गते टिच फर नेपाल २०२२ का फेलो (प्रज्ञार्थी) भेषराज थाडा मगरले कक्षाकोठामा विद्यार्थीहरू लाई अनुपयुक्त शारीरिक सजाय दिएको घटना सार्वजनिक भएको छ । 

टिच फर नेपाल आफूले काम गर्ने विद्यालय र आफ्नो विद्यार्थीहरूमा हुने कुनै पनि प्रकारको शारीरिक सजाय तथा दुव्र्यहारमा शुन्य सहनशीलताको नीति रहेको छ । सोही नीति अनुरुप घटनाको जानकारी पाए लगत्तै टिच फर नेपालले नीजलाई फेलोशिपबाट तत्काल निलम्बन गरी घटनाको छानबिन र कार्वाहीलाई सहयोग पु¥याएको व्यहोरा सबैमा जानकारी गराउन चाहन्छौँ ।  

घटनाको जानकारी पाएलगत्तै टिच फर नेपालले विभिन्न माध्यमको प्रयोगबाट तत्काल सत्य तथ्य बुझ्ने, जानकारी लिने, स्थलगत रुपमा अध्ययन, अवलोकन, सम्बन्धित निकायसँगको बैठक र जनप्रतिनिधिहरू बीचको संवादको आधारमा निज फेलो भेषराज थाडा मगरबाट घटित उक्त घटना अक्षम्य देखिएकोले निजलाई मिति २०८० साल बैशाख ३१ गतेदेखि फेलोशिपबाट निष्काशन गरिएको व्यहोरा सबैमा निवेदन गर्न चाहान्छौं । 

यस घटनाबाट पर्न गएको पीडाप्रति विद्यार्थी, उहाँहरूको परिवार र समुदाय सम्पूर्णप्रतिमा हामी क्षमाप्रर्थी छौं । टिच फर नेपाल परिवार यस प्रकारको घटनाप्रति गहिरो दुःख व्यक्त गर्दछ । हामी भविष्यमा यस्ता घटना हुन नदिन थप उपायहरू लागूअवलम्वन गर्न कटिबद्ध छौँ । हामी हाम्रा नीति र अभ्यासहरूलाई समायानुकूल सुदृढ र परिष्कृत पार्दै हाम्रा फेलोहरूलाई निरन्तर प्रशिक्षण प्रदान गर्ने नै छौँ । साथै सबै विद्यार्थीहरूको लागि सुरक्षित सिकाइ वातावरण सुनिश्चित गर्न र  आगामी दिनमा यस प्रकारका घटनाहरू नदोहोरिनका  लागि थप जिम्मेवार बन्ने छौं ।

टिच फर नेपाल नेपालको सार्वजनिक शिक्षालाई रूपान्तरण, शिक्षामा समानता र उत्कृष्टता ल्याउने कार्यक्रममा सदासर्वदा लागिरहने र यस कार्यमा यहाँहरू  सबैको रचानात्मक साथ सहयोगको अपेक्षा गर्दछौ ।
